Visiting Goa in June is a fabulous idea. The hot Indian summer is gone. It’s a treat to watch the rain clouds over the Arabian Sea. A sudden dramatic drop in temperature and the rains make it very pleasant. Officially, June is the start of the monsoon season in Goa. The average temperature is 30°C, cooler than the 33°C of May. The humidity, however, is higher this month because of the cloud cover. The wind speed also picks up. June sees a lot more rain. In an average month, there are 22 rainy days.
There is something very romantic about seeing the rain over the hills and the sea. This makes Goa in June perfect for the romantic couples. Families will also enjoy their stay. Young children will love to play in poodles of water. And with all that rain, the rivers and streams will also be full. Everything looks much better this month.
There are few tourists this month, so the streets are cleaner and the beaches are empty. South Goa looks deserted but you will still find a lot of activity in Baga, Candolim, Calangute, and Anjuna. You will still find water sports, especially early in the month. Visit Dudhsagar Waterfalls.
May is the cheapest month. The prices are also low in June, so you will be able to book your villa for far less. Almost all the hotels, resorts, and luxury villas in Goa offer discounts because of the lower demand for rooms. You may be able to save up to 30% compared to the December-January period. There is fly boarding, however, which is becoming popular here. Another available option is white water rafting. The rivers are full and more adventurous, thanks to the rain. |

May is usually the hottest month of the year. It is beginning to cool down in June, as the monsoon arrives in the first week. The temperature drops substantially by 3 degrees to 30°C. By the end of the month, it is further down slightly. It will also rain more heavily as the month progresses with the monsoon setting in firmly. So early June is the driest and the warmest. The cloud cover too will go up significantly as the month progresses. Early June is usually the clearest.
There is a lot of rain in Goa because of its coastal location. June receives 868 mm of rain, much higher than the 113 mm of May. But it is still less than the 995 mm rain of July. In an average year, it will rain for 22 days in June. On some days, it can rain heavily, and for hours, but there can be stretches of several days without much rain. At 81%, the weather in June is very humid too. The humidity is higher than May, but still lower than July, making it a relatively comfortable month to visit Goa, especially if you love the rains.

Goa gets 8 hours of sunshine in June, because of the cloud cover, and less than the 12 hours of May. The average sea temperature is 29°C, cooler than last month. The water is warm enough for swimming, but it’s wise to stay away from the water because of the higher waves, rain, and windy conditions. Swimming can be risky. There are no water sports this month, because of this high risk. The average wind speed is higher than May.
There is something magical about visiting Goa during the rainy season. The locals are taking a break from the busy tourist season, so you will have more of a chance to get to know them. You can take a ride around the countryside, watching the locals going about their daily lives. Walk for long hours on the beach, if you don’t mind a little drizzle. Best things to do in June
- Dudhsagar Waterfalls – India’s 5th tallest Dudhsagar waterfall is a must-visit in June. This picturesque 4-tier waterfall is full of water after the rain and looks wild and beautiful. The water comes down from a height of 600 meters. You can trek to its base where there is a pool and swim there.
- The Spice Plantations – Vasco da Gama, the famous Portuguese explorer, came to Goa in 1498 to find a new maritime route and buy Indian spices. To this day, Goa has many fabulous spice plantations, which look the greenest and most scenic in June because of the rains. In the Savoi Plantation, you can see cardamom, Peri Peri, palm trees with their roots, vanilla, coriander, cinnamon, pepper, cloves, and hundreds of orchid species. You can also visit the Sahakari, and Tropical plantations. You can have a a traditional Goan lunch cooked from the farm spices.
- Wildlife Sanctuaries – Goa has many wildlife sanctuaries and national parks like the Bhagwan Mahavir Sanctuary, Cotiago National Park, Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary, Mollem National Park and the Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary. You can see many birds, butterflies, reptiles, animals, and trees. June is the greenest month as the rain gives new leaves.
- Trekking – Goa’s western coast has the Arabian Sea. On the east, you will find the Western Ghat hills. You can trek to the Dudhsagar Waterfall and the Tambdi Surla Waterfall. Sao Joao Festival in June
Sao Joao Feast of St. John the Baptist – A vibrant festival, this is also referred to as the Fertility Feast. Men would jump into wells to recover bottles of Feni and other gifts that people throw. Sao Joao is more popular in North Goa, especially Siolim. There are dances, traditional music performances, and boat races too. The festival is held on June 24th.
CUIndia – CUIndia or The StartUp Nation is an event showcasing startup businesses in the state. There are workshops, and other programs. It is most popular among the entrepreneurs and freelancers.
Beach Side Party – A monsoon party festival that is held at Calangute beach in North Goa on June 12th. There is live music and entertainment.
Sangodd Festival – A traditional festival of the fishing community of Goa that is held on June 29 th every year. There is a huge feast after the morning church service. There are songs, folk dances, and plays. People will sail down the river in small colorful rafts to reach the Chapel of St Peter. There is also a huge procession. The atmosphere is like the carnival.
Feast of Saint Peter & Saint Paul – Held on June 29th, this is a traditional music and dance festival. It celebrates the arrival of the monsoon season. This festival is popular mostly with the local fishermen.
Hotels in Goa in June
Hotels, resorts, guest houses, and home stays offer bargain deals in June as there are few tourists. You can find a room sometimes at a discount of 20% to 30%. Monsoon tourism is actually growing in Goa now, especially with the Indian tourists, those who want to stay in the best properties and enjoy Goa at a much lower price. However, many guest houses and smaller properties will close down this month, only to open again in October in preparation for the coming peak season.
Rent a Villa in Goa
Villa accommodation is also cheaper in June, and the rest of the monsoon season. Flight tickets, bike rentals, and everything else will also be cheaper. Find a good villa with air conditioning, hot water, and a fully-equipped kitchen, where you can prepare a meal if you want, in case you don’t find any restaurants open close to your location. Most beach shacks, and many restaurants and cafes will be closed in South Goa, but the popular places in North Goa will remain open. Of course, you can always order food online/from your phone, if you don’t feel like cooking.
The most comfortable areas for a beach holiday in June are Baga, Candolim, and Calangute in the north, and Colva and Cavelossim in the south.
