Patnem Beach

Patnem Beach is a serene and quiet coastal stretch in South Goa. Located in the Canacona taluka, this is one of the southernmost beaches in the state. At 900 meters, it is one of the longest beaches in Goa with excellent infrastructure, facilities, and scenic beauty. But it has somehow remained hidden from mass tourism, which is great news for tourists who love a quieter escape, away from the crowds. Patnem Beach is very close to Palolem, which has over the years become very popular. A rocky headland separates Palolem from the small Colomb Beach. A second headland separates Colomb from Patnem.

Patnem Beach is what Palolem used to be before the arrival of mass tourism. It’s a very nice quieter alternative. And like Palolem, Patnem too is covered by plenty of trees. It has palm trees in the north and pine trees in the south. The beach has lively surf, which makes it good for swimming. However, there are undercurrents in some places. So be careful before you jump into the water. It is best to check locally and find out the places where you can swim safely.

The beach is lined with many huts and shacks, yet there is plenty of space for all. You can sit back and enjoy the views or grab a lounger and lie down. There are yoga classes and spas where you can get a therapeutic massage. Away from the beach, you will find many stalls selling a verity of things, without the hard-selling of Palolem. There is also a small village beyond the tourist areas where you will see many traditional homes.

The Beach

Patnem is a beautiful beach with soft yellow sand in the southernmost fringes of Goa. It is located between two rocky headlands. You can walk through them both. The southernmost portion of Patnem is Rajbag Beach. The Talpona River meets the Arabian Sea here. Just beyond the rocky outcrop in the southern end of Patnem Beach, there is a second river. It is a small creek that meanders through thick foliage.

There is a bungalow here where the famous Hindi comedy movie Golmaal was filmed.

Patnem is a 900-meter-long beach with soft sand. Surrounded by many trees and with a beautiful clean sea in the front, it is a great place for a relaxing holiday. It remains serene even in the peak season. The beach is busier in the northern end as you will find many shacks, restaurants, and huts here. You will find it emptier and with even fewer people as you walk towards the southern end.

Patnem Beach is not a typical place for parties. However, silent noise parties are held in the nearby Palolem. It is only a 5-minute walk away.
